The mission of the Federation is to support its Member Boards in their work to ensure that the practice of massage therapy is provided to the public in a safe and effective manner.
The examination developed by the FSMTB on behalf of its Member Boards is the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx). To ensure the examination reflects current practice, a Job Task Analysis Survey was developed with contributions by over 50 content experts under the guidance of 15 testing and psychometric experts.

MassageNet was established in 2009 with the mission to develop and maintain communication between professional massage therapists, students, educators, researchers, and healthcare policy makers. The network intends to conduct high quality research and then share those findings with others to expand the body of knowledge available in the field of massage therapy. The mission of the Academic Consortium for Complementary and Alternative Health Care (ACCAHC) Integrated Healthcare Policy Consortium (IHPC) is to direct the national healthcare agenda toward a health-oriented, integrated system, ensuring all peopleaccess to the full range of safe and regulated conventional, complementary, and alternative healthcare professionals, therapies and products, and to the building blocks of health, including clean air and water as well as a healthy food supply.
