This Medical Assistant program prepares the graduate to become an important member of the allied health team. Students become skilled in many aspects of medical assisting including essential elements of medical office administration combined with clinical and laboratory skills.
In addition, an externship is required for every student graduating from the Medical Assistant program. Students must maintain a 2.00 grade point average in their all subjects and need a C (2.0) or better in all medical courses to qualify for the externship. Medical Assistant students have, among others, classes in anatomy & physiology, medical terminology and pharmacology. They learn laboratory and clinical skills which include drawing blood, urinalysis, vital signs, sterilization techniques, dressing changes, EKG, and medication administration. Graduates of the Medical Assistant program will be prepared to enter the job market in a number of different health care settings including physician offices, outpatient clinics, and hospitals.
