"Newsmap, a project of design engineer Marcos Wekamp, shows trending news in 15 countries in real-time. Color-coded based on the topic (world, technology, business, sports, etc.), the site uses different sized boxes to illustrate trends—the bigger the box, the more news stories. Turn countries and topics “on” or “off” based on how much information you want to see. Compare trending topics in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, and other countries."

Each NY Times topic page collects all the news, reference and archival information, photos, graphics, audio and video files published on topics ranging from Madonna to Myanmar. This treasure trove is available without charge on articles going back to 1981.
